But now, the long vacant downtown retail center is entering a new phase as a grassroots arts hub, recently hiring set designer Marina Skye and artist Mike Stasny to direct the project. Atlanta Artists Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. It was founded in 1954 by a small group of watercolor painters searching for a place to paint and exhibit their work. After a series of rented spaces, this growing group of artists pooled their resources to obtain the space now known as Atlanta Artists Center.
